Health: The many uses of Cucumber

Cucumber
• Cucumber is a very edible and nutritious vegetable which comes from the cucumber plant Cucumis Sativas, which is a part of the gourd family. It can be eaten raw or cooked. With so many health benefits, it becomes one of the most important parts of a good diet.
• Cucumber is 90 per cent water and is very rich in vitamin C. It is known to be a cooling agent due to the water in it. T
• It contains flavonoids, which are anti-oxidants with anti-inflammatory properties.
• When used as eye pads, cucumber relieves puffiness and swelling around the eyes, as well as the dark circles under the eyes. This is because cucumber contains ascorbic and caffeic acid, both of which prevent water retention.
• Cucumber and the skin share the same level of hydrogen; as such, it soothes and softens the skin. Its cleaning and cleansing properties help the skin tremendously, making it soft and supple.
• Cucumbers are a good source of the trace mineral silica, which plays an important role in the connective tissue in the muscles, tendons, cartilage, ligament and bone. Low levels of silica can manifest in hair loss, brittle nails and skin issues.
• Cucumbers are a diuretic, and therefore promote the production of urine. This may lead to increased thirst, light-headedness and dizziness if you eat cucumbers in large quantity. Be sure not to eat a lot of cucumber if you are currently taking another diuretic.
