The Sunday market is basically what you will refer to as a “makeshift market” because the structures in there are not permanent ones. The structures are simply movable booths or structures of that sort.
The market is intended for farmers/traders to sell directly to consumers and wholesalers and as such it is not rigidly regulated like other public markets.
The market, I had thought before this research was a market named after a certain person called Sunday which is quite a common phenomenon in this parts. I was very wrong as you can now imagine....I have been thoroughly educated to that effect.
It is an everyday market but Sunday’s is a special day in the life of the market. Why?
Traders/farmers come from far and wide to display their produce while the consumers also come in their droves. On Sundays, there is usually a higher influx of people whether they be consumers or traders.
I could not establish when the market first started but it has obviously existed for decades.
On Sundays, you can be sure you are getting fresh farm produce ranging from dairy, vegetables, fruits and beverages.
Why do farmers/traders come from far?
The market offers the farmers or traders increased profits because they sell directly to consumers thereby cutting off the middlemen and getting a premium.
At the end of a market day, the excess can still be sold to wholesalers.
Funds are not expended on packaging.
Why do consumers come from far?
The market offers reduced cost.
Fresh from the source foods.
In these days of artificial foods, healthy good is guaranteed.
The markets provides a variety.
Overall, it is evident that goods are cheaper at the Sunday market. I however believe that the Government and maybe the people are not milking the economic potentials. What do I mean? The market guarantees a high influx of people, this should be an opportunity for other businesses to spring up around the area.
I could be wrong but it is something to look into
