Research: How tiredness makes men think women are more amorous than they actually are

Next time a man chats you up his motives might be far from romantic - he could just need some more sleep.
Men who are tired are more likely to think that a woman is interested in them, researchers have found.

Having just one night of poor sleep is enough to make a man think that he is in with a greater chance with a woman even she has no interest whatsoever.

In a surprising twist, the same effect was not apparent in women and they retained their clear-eyed judgement - even if they were worn out too.

The study gives a new spin on the idea that men get ‘beer goggles’ after a few drinks which make them feel more amorous.

Instead they may now be in danger of having their ‘sleep goggles’ on instead.

The researchers asked 60 male and female university students to complete a questionnaire before and after one night of sleep deprivation in which they were deliberately given a bad night’s sleep.

The questions included their sexual interest, their sexual intent, how interested they were in commitment and a general interest in the opposite sex.

Impaired judgement: Men tended to overestimate women's interest in them after just one night of poor sleep
