Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has re- arrested Mr. John Yusuf Yesufu, a former director of the Police Pension fund who was yesterday set free by an Abuja high court for stealing $203 million from the Police pension fund.
A High Court at the Federal Capital Territory had set Yesufu free after a controversial plea bargain yesterday which has lead to a major outrage .
The plea deal saw Yesufu paying N750,000 fine in lieu of a six- year jail sentence for conniving with others to defraud the office and pensioners of N27.2bn.
Mr. Yesufu is currently being detained at the Abuja office of the the EFCC for false declaration of assets. He expected to face fresh charges soon.
