Robbers attack ex- deputy governor

The former deputy governor of Nigeria’s western state of Ogun, Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Ogunleye
was early this morning attacked by some unidentified gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in his residence in Ijebu – Itele in Ijebu East local government area of the state.
Ogunleye, who was the deputy to two-time Governor Olusegun Osoba between 1992 and 1993 confirmed that no one was wounded and nothing was taken away by the robbers during the attack as people in the area came out en masse to support the local security men.
According to him: “Those people came in around midnight. I don’t know their number and am still surprised on how they gained entrance into my compound. Before they could do anything,
the local security, Ogun state Vigilante Service, OVS, had arrived and they fought gallantly with the robbers who engaged them in a gun battle. My people from the town also came out en masse to support the vigilante boys but the robbers escaped before the arrival of the police”, he narrated.
The Ijebu Zonal Commandant of the Ogun State Vigilante Service, OVS, Commander Marcus Ayankoya
stated that his boys received the distress call and without wasting much time, arrived at the scene. He said their early arrival saved the household from the hands of the men of
the underworld.
