A telecoms expert; Otunba Abiodun Ajiboye has decried the recently launched mobile phone portability by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) for all GSM providers in the country, saying Nigeria lacks the infrastructure to effectively conduct such migration seamlessly.

Otunba Ajiboye made this known on Channels TV weekend breakfast programme; Sunrise where he noted that poor power supply in the country will be a major hassle for the scheme.

He also decried the system whereby a subscriber who wants to port from one service provider to another, will have to go the office of the service provider, register his/her intention with some paper works and then take about 48hours before the migration is done.

‘Boko Haram, MEND Is A Blessing’ – Security Expert

Mr. Dare Ogunlana, a security expert has said that the various insurgencies in northern Nigeria and Niger Delta have awakened the government to see the error of their ways; describing the Boko Haram and MEND groups as a ‘blessing.’
Mr. Ogunlana

Speaking on Sunrise,a programme on Channels TV. he said that President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to handle the situation of the Boko Haram insurgents differently because the country is now in the democratic dispensation.
However, he also blamed politicians who “wanted to seize power” for the making illegal weapons available to thugs; a problem for which Nigerians are now paying the price.
He described terrorism as a generational struggle stating that it will continue to exist as long as there is injustice, corruption and bad governance.
“I made a statement recently that even Boko Haram, MEND is a blessing. If not for the fact that we have Boko Haram and MEND, our government will not know that what they are doing (the stealing and everything underdevelopment), they will not know” they have to do it right. Mr. Ogunlana said.
He also said that “because of Boko Haram, you can see a lot of almajiri schools… a lot of things are going on” in the North.
He added that “because of MEND and Boko Haram, we have been able to identify that we don’t even have Police.”

Funny piece: Channels TV, Satellites and Oga at the top

No doubt, Sunrise daily,Channels Television's breakfast show was made even more popular by the My Oga at the topruckus. Many have had a good laugh about it, and quite a number have made a few bucks. However, doesn't it occur to you that as a result, some 'eminent' personalities might think twice before appearing on TV?
Why become the joke of 300,000 hits on Youtube when you can simply say 'no, thank you' to an interview. Some others have chosen option B, preparedness. Imagine high ranking individuals doing all night studies, and using flash cards to remember the websites of their organizations to avoid Maupe's cultured voice or Chamberlain's raised eyebrows.
There is another option however, that I find quite laughable. Did you notice that in the past few weeks, post-my oga at the top, some guests on the show were interviewed via satellite? Yep. They were tucked safely away in a different state of the Federation.
Absolutely wonderful! So if you're not ready for an interview, just say that you'll do it via satellite. That way, if you don't know the answer to a question, you can simply pretend that the network is bad and you can't hear. That's all! #lol

NSCDC replaces Shem Obafaiye of "my oga at the top" fame

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has finally replaced Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man behind the "my oga at the top" mantra, as commandant of Lagos State Command. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos at the weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists. But Abolurin did not give reasons for Obafaye's removal .

Sources however hinted that the development might not be unconnected with his recent interview on Channels Television live programme. Before now, authorities of NSCDC have denied taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview. Their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.

How it came about

Shem's travail started when he appeared on Channels Television morning programme 'Sunrise' and when asked the NSCDC website he said: "Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga at the top knows the website".

He again, cleared his throat and said: "My Oga at the top is working on the website and I don't have them".When the presenters insisted that he should give a functioning website address of the para-military outfit, he dropped the bombshell: "www.nscdc, that's all".Immediately, the interview went viral and has become so popular to the extent that t-shirts with "my oga at the top" insignia has been produced and selling like hot cake across the country, even as some DJs and musicians have done what they called a remix of the phrase.

Some Nollywood actors and actresses had even produced and launched a movie titled, " My oga at the top."

What next for Mr. Shem Obafaiye? Time will tell

Oga at the top: He is not matured and lost composure- Abolurin

THE Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ade Abolurin, has said the Lagos State Corps Commandant, Mr Obafaiye Shem, did not commit any punishable offence on the account of the recent television interview he granted, while he debunked rumours making the rounds that he had been suspended.

He said if the Lagos State commandant was interviewed, and in the process lost his composure, that “did not call for sanction.”It will be recalled that the popular slogan, “my oga at the top” joke recently emanated from the Channels Television interview granted the Lagos State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Obafaiye Shem.

He said, “it is an internal measure; we will keep you posted; we are still on course because he has not committed any offence. If a person is being interviewed, and in the process the person could not compose himself, that does not result to a crime; it is a question of maturity,” he stated.
