Nigeria: NSCDC Rescues 32 Pregnant Teens in Abia

Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NCSDC) in Abia says it rescued 32 pregnant teenagers from a maternity home at Umuzuo, Osisioma local government area of Abia.

Victor Ogbonna, state NSCDC Public Relations Officer, made this known when he presented the pregnant teenagers rescued to newsmen in Umuahia yesterday.Ogbonna said that the proprietor of the centre, Nnenna Mba, and two men - Mba Agbai and Chinwoke Mba - who allegedly aided and abated the act, were arrested by the NSCDC.

He said the rescue and arrest took place on April 2, at Umuzuo community while the teenagers and the owner of the home were around. He said that investigations by NSCDC revealed that victims were induced to sell a baby boy for N100, 000, while a girl goes for N80, 000."More investigations conducted showed that the owner of the maternity home, in turn sells the baby boy for N450, 000, and a girl for N400, 000,"

"In spite of the home being registered with government, investigations by our men revealed that the owner, hides under this to commit evil," he said

The proprietor of the home denied claims that she induced the victims to sell their babies.

Welldone NSCDC but why do people purchase these babies? I believe further investigations shoild be carried out and all guilty parties brought to book including the end buyers

NSCDC replaces Shem Obafaiye of "my oga at the top" fame

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has finally replaced Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man behind the "my oga at the top" mantra, as commandant of Lagos State Command. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos at the weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists. But Abolurin did not give reasons for Obafaye's removal .

Sources however hinted that the development might not be unconnected with his recent interview on Channels Television live programme. Before now, authorities of NSCDC have denied taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview. Their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.

How it came about

Shem's travail started when he appeared on Channels Television morning programme 'Sunrise' and when asked the NSCDC website he said: "Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga at the top knows the website".

He again, cleared his throat and said: "My Oga at the top is working on the website and I don't have them".When the presenters insisted that he should give a functioning website address of the para-military outfit, he dropped the bombshell: "www.nscdc, that's all".Immediately, the interview went viral and has become so popular to the extent that t-shirts with "my oga at the top" insignia has been produced and selling like hot cake across the country, even as some DJs and musicians have done what they called a remix of the phrase.

Some Nollywood actors and actresses had even produced and launched a movie titled, " My oga at the top."

What next for Mr. Shem Obafaiye? Time will tell

Nigeria: NSCDC arrests 62 fake corpers in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested 62 suspected fake corps members, including a nursing mother, at an illegal orientation camp.

The Commandant, Mr Andekin Musa, told newsmen in Lafia on Monday. He said men of the command, acting on a tip-off, arrested the fake corps members on Sunday at a hidden camp near Government Secondary School, Tammah in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state. He said among those arrested were 44 females and 18 males.
According to him, one Mr Chinedu, believed to be the coordinator and director of the camp, is still at-large.He added, however, that the command had received useful information that would lead to his arrest. He said investigation revealed that the suspected fake corps members paid money ranging between N120, 000 and N200,000 before being admitted into the camp.He said the suspects, most of whom claimed to have graduated from the University of Jos Consultancy programmes, had confessed to the crime.Andekin said the suspected fake corps members had converged on Mararaba before being transported in three buses to the hidden camp in Nasarawa Local Government.

This comes as fresh air after all the " oga at the top" saga. Yet again, I would be careful to blame the victims of this scam- everyone wants a way out.

Video: NSCDC boss does not know his website

This is an absolute disgrace. How can anyone take them seriously? A civil defence corps boss comes on national TV and does not know basic things about his organisation and yet loads of more intelligent chaps litter the streets. God save us!
