Deadly: Afghan woman is shot dead by her own father

An Afghan woman has been shot dead by her own father in front of a mob of 300 after she was accused of dishonouring her family by running away from her husband.

The victim, known only as Halima, was aged between 18 to 20 and had two children, according to Amnesty International.

She had eloped with a male cousin while her husband was in Iran. But ten days later he returned her to her family in Kookchaheel, in the Aabkamari district of the north-western Badghis province.

Her father sought the advice of village elders and three of them issued a fatwa ordering that Halima be publicly executed.

She was shot dead on April 22. It is not known what has happened to her cousin, who has not been identified.

Her father and the three elders, who are all allegedly linked to the Taliban, have gone into hiding 

Amnesty International’s Afghanistan researcher Horia Mosadiq said: ‘The deeply shocking practice of women being subjected to violent “punishments”, including killing, publicly or privately, must end.

‘The authorities across Afghanistan must ensure that perpetrators of violence against women are brought to justice.

‘Violence against women continues to be endemic in Afghanistan and those responsible very rarely face justice.

They are barely bigger than the assault rifles they grasp clumsily in their hands.Yet these children are being trained to become the next generation of terrorists from the age of just five.

Sitting in long lines as if on a school outing, they struggle to lift deadly AK-47s as they are made to fire off a flurry of rounds, their tiny bodies getting knocked back by the recoil.Others grapple with pistols as they are brainwashed into waging Jihad on the West and becoming suicide bombers.

The terrifying footage was taken from an Al Qaeda terror camp in north Waziristan, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.Many of the children are orphans of the terrorist organisation's 'martyrs' following the same deadly route as their fathers.

It was initially posted on an underground al Qaeda website and is believed to have been issued by the Turkistan Islamic Party, which trains insurgents to fight alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan.It is believed the armed group is responsible for hundreds of acts of ­terrorism worldwide in the past 20 years.

Islamic terrorists – some of whom fought and killed British soldiers in Afghanistan - caught in Saudi Arabia are to receive 'luxury rehabilitation'.

The conservative oil rich state is hoping to steer jailed al-Qaeda militants away from religious extremism with counselling, spa treatments and exercise at a luxury rehabilitation centre in Riyadh, news agencies there are reporting.

The luxury facilities, which the country has spared no expense on providing, include Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a gym and a television hall. 

For those who have shown signs of good behaviour, two day breaks may be granted for those who wish proximity with their wives, in special 'suites' which are part of the complex.

The program will accommodate around 3,000 prisoners in 5 centres in the kingdom but it is the new facility in Riyadh, however, which is to offer prisoners a 'taste of luxury as an incentive to moderate their beliefs'.

French photographer kidnapped in Afghanistan escapes

French photographer escaped captivity in Afghanistan on Monday more than three months after being taken hostage, the Interior Ministry said.

Four armed men snatched freelancer Pierre Borghi from a busy area of the capital, Kabul, in November, ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.

Sediqqi said Borghi had run away from his captors in Wardak province, near Kabul, and then been picked up by Afghan security forces and taken to the capital.Kidnappings are on the rise in Afghanistan and neighbouring Pakistan.

Experts say militants are using them to raise funds after cash from al Qaeda dried up. It was not clear who was responsible for Borghi’s kidnapping.

US Diplomat killed in Afghanistan attack

The friends and family of Anne Smedinghoff are mourning the 25-year-old Foreign Service Officer killed in a car bomb blast in southern Afghanistan whom they describe as vivacious and loving.

Smedinghoff was one of five Americans killed in a suicide bomb attack in Qalat, Zabul.

Working as a press officer for the U.S. embassy in Kabul, she was helping Afghan journalists cover an event at a boys school where the local U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team was to donate math and science books

The other Americans killed in the attack were three military service members and a civilian working for the Defense Department. Four State Department officials, including one described as critically injured, were among the 10 injured in the attack.
