Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure yesterday in Ghana retained his crown as African best footballer. He won the Glo CAF African Footballer of The Year Award beating his national team captain and former Chelsea of England star Didier Drogba and Cameroonian Alexander Song. Toure by the new crown has won the title back-to-back.
The event sponsored by telecom giants Globacom took place at the Banquet Hall, State House Accra in Ghana. No Nigerian or team won any award at the night. The best African team was won by Zambia, winners of the last African Nations Cup while the best Women’s team on the continent went to the national team of Equatorial Guinea.
African club of the year award went to Al Ahly of Egypt while Zambian coach, Herve Renard was named the coach of the year. CAF Fair play award was won by the Gabonese national team while African best player playing on the continent was Mohammed Aboutrika.
