HIV/Aids: Can there be a cure?

A certain Prof. Isaiah Ibeh of the University of Benin, this Tuesday announced the development of a new drug that can allegedly 'cure' HIV and AIDS. Ibeh, who is the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of the university, told reporters in Benin that the herbal drug had undergone "series of successful tests".

According to him, research on the project was started in 2010 and culminated in the development of "Deconcotion X (DX)-Liquid or Bioclean 11 for the cure of HIV and AIDS". "The existing retroviral drugs are intervention drugs for the management of AIDS but our new discovery is a possible cure.

He however stated that they need to test further. I fear that it is just a publicity gimmick. Are my fears justified?
We used to know of a certain Dr. Abalaka and his claims on HIV/Aids. Till tomorrow, I still do not know what came of him.
Suddenly, there is another claim which emanated from a research of two years! wow. From medical perspective, the development of a new drug takes continuous research and trials of up to 10years. How can such claims emanate after two years.

I am not saying the bath water should be thrown away with the baby but absolute care and vigilance is required in making such claims. I hope a cure is discovered and timely too but all records must be set straight.
