Why Obasanjo refused to lay a wreath at Armed Forces Day

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo  on teusday refused to the  the invitation of the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, to lay wreath during the celebration of this year’s Armed forces Remembrance Day celebration in  Abeokuta, the state capital.
The event had to be  was put on hold for  some time while  dignitaries tried  to persuade “Baba”to change his mind.
The former president, a retired army general and a war veteran himself, refused to participate in the wreath- laying ceremony because his name  was not included in the original list  drawn up by Protocol  to lay wreaths.

The Drama

A mild drama played out during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Abeokuta on Tuesday as a former President Olusegun Obasanjo declined Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s request to lay a wreath at the Arcade in Abeokuta.
Obasanjo vehemently resisted the governor’s persuasion to be part of the dignitaries to perform the ceremony.
This put a temporary stop to the programme as other dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun and the Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, unsuccessfully begged him to do so.
