Arsenal Shareholder, Alisher Usmanov now Britain's wealthiest

Alisher Usmanov, the Russian tycoon who owns nearly a third of the Premier League football club Arsenal, has ousted steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal from his position as Britain's wealthiest person.

Usmanov, 59, owns a near 30 per cent stake in the Gunners, shared with Farhad Moshiri, but is still being kept off the board by American majority shareholder Stan Kroenke.

The Uzbek-born businessman, who made his £13.3bn fortune in Russian mining and lumber operations, recently claimed 'the current politics of the club's management' were partly responsible for the club's eight-year trophy drought.

He tops the respected list following a £985m rise in wealth from last year, when he ranked second behind Mittal.
Mittal, who owns 33.3 per cent of Premier League strugglers QPR, made his wealth in the steel industry and his family is worth a combined £10bn

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich ranked fifth in the list, with a value of £9.3bn.
