Gen. Danjuma |
General Theophilus
Yakubu Danjuma, the civil war veteran, the coup maker, former chief of army
staff, former defence minister, big corporate player, oil magnate and one of
Nigeria’s rich men will be 75 years old on Sunday 9 December
Fondly called TY by
his compatriots, his net worth is estimated at $600 million, according to
Forbes. Some say Forbes arithmetic may actually be an under-estimation of his
true assets.
If we use the 70th
birthday as a marker, we expect the General to mark this birthday, in a more
lavish manner, along with his wife, Daisy, a former Senator.
Tributes are pouring
in for the retired army general.
One of them came
from the Northern Governors’ Forum, whose chair, Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger,
in a statement said that Danjuma made positive impact in his chosen career.
In the statement
signed by Mr. Danladi Ndayebo, Chief Press Secretary to Aliyu, the governor
said Danjuma made the impact because of his rare vision and good leadership.
“Were Gen. Danjuma
not as visionary and courageous as he is, the Nigerian Army would not have
attained the height it reached, and Nigeria would have been the worse for it.
“It is no longer
news that Gen.Danjuma rose through the ranks to reach the highest echelon of
the military by hard work, perseverance and honesty and used his office to
preserve the oneness of Nigeria,” he said.
Aliyu said the forum
is proud to be associated with Danjuma’s achievements, especially his efforts
at keeping Nigeria one.
We wish him a happy
birthday
