EKO 2012: Swimming commences after delay

After three postponements, the swimming event of the 18th National Sports Festival taking place in Lagos began on Monday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos  with Heat 1 of the 100m women's freestyle.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), swimming was slated for Nov. 29 but had to be moved to Dec. 2 and later to Monday because of the high level of Chlorine in the water. The organisers said the chlorine could be injurious to the swimmers especially their skin, eyes and nose.

The first event saw Abeng Oka of Cross River state in the fourth lane return a time of 1.08.86 to win while Anuoluwapo Agunbinade in lane from Osun State came second with a time of 1.13:74 and Ogun's Light Ikuloburu was third with 1.16:15.

The swimming event will end on Saturday.
