Distraught Lagosians
are calling on the Lagos State government to provide alternative means of
transportation after the ban on okada
When the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN)
banned the activities of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as okada
riders on 475 routes in Lagos State, some Lagosians welcomed the idea as a good
move to reduce crime, while others see it as inhumane and inconsiderate act by
the government. With their experiences following the ban, many Lagosians are
now worried over the harsh consequences of the ban on okada in Lagos.
I cannot begin to describe the long distances I have had to
walk and endless queues/crowd at bus stops. I still agree with the government
on the ban but more roads should be made accessible and more public buses
should be provided.
